Module 3
Artificial Intelligence Applied to ELT
Introduction:
Modules 1 and 2 were full of concepts and learnings, and modules were based on recollecting information and using that information in small practices. Those two modules were learning and practicing, but in module number 3, we must apply all that learning and training to something more specific. The principal objective in module 3 was to apply the AI we learned to the creation of lesson plans. This module tested all we have learned about AI with a big project. This project was to create a lesson plan of many hours for English modules.
The creation of lesson plans using AI is something that every teacher needs to know; it simplifies work and helps with fresh ideas in the creation of your classes. In this module, we used AI to create lesson plans; we used many tools that helped us to improve our lesson planning or to create one based on those tools' suggestions. As in the other modules, there are AI that wasn’t created for lesson planning, but that we can use for that purpose by using the right prompts; for example, ChatGPT, Copilot, etc. On the other hand, there are AI created especially for lesson planning. Let’s go to key concepts and talk about them.
Reflection on Key Concepts:
The creation of lesson plans sometimes (well, most of the time) can be frustrating and time-consuming. Before a class, you have to be ready with the information you will be presenting to your students, the activities you will be developing in class, and the tests that you will use to evaluate your student’s process. It is a big effort you have to make to give a great class, and sometimes some obstacles stop your planning and make that work more complicated.
Lesson planning can get hard if you don’t know how to use technology in your favor; when planning you can easily get lost, and don’t find any idea for your classes and activities; using technology, you can fix that problem. AI can help us with the creation of lesson plans; it has a lot of advantages, but also it has some disadvantages, for example; AI can help us to save a lot of time when creating lesson plans. Also, it can give a lot of ideas for our classes, the information for our presentation, the structures, examples, exercises, etc. AI is great for creating activities in which you can have fun and learn with your students at the same time. On the other hand, AI can hallucinate and make mistakes; besides, you have to create a good prompt for having what you want; if you don’t know about prompt design, you won't have the results you want for your lesson plans. So, we as teachers have to be careful with that and not to rely entirely on AI.
Using AI for creating lesson plans is easy when you know a little about prompt design and you have knowledge of all the concepts of AI. There are a lot of tools you can use to create your plans; for example, ChatGPT. It is a general AI that was not specially created for lesson planning, so you have to create a good prompt to obtain favorable results. If you want to do your planning using ChatGPT, you have to follow the steps of prompt design: first, give the AI a role (act as an ELT specialist). Second, give the AI an objective (create a lesson plan about the simple past tense). Third, limits and expectations (the lesson should have a warm-up activity, a presentation, etc.). Finally, you have to give the public, the format and the tone. In that way, you will have your lesson plan ready. If you don’t get the results you want, you can fix it by being more specific in your prompt; and if you still don’t like the results, you can use another tool using the same prompt. This works in general AI, so if you want to use copilot, Claude, or Gemini, you only have to follow the same process.
Apart from the same typical AI, you can also use AI made specifically to create lesson plans, Eduaide is one of them. Eduaide.Ai, is an AI-driven platform designed to assist educators in creating lesson plans, teaching resources, and assessments. It helps educators streamline their lesson planning process. Also. It provides a variety of tools to generate teaching materials. Besides, it helps with the creation of assessment making all the work even easier. You just have to create an account and start creating your plans.
Another platform for creating lesson plans is Comenio. It is also an AI platform created to help teachers with lesson plans, creating materials, and evaluating students. It was created to be intuitive and easy to use; also, it offers over 100 tools for lesson planning, so you have a wide range of options.
There are a lot of more tools, but one last of them I can mention is magic school. I have mentioned a lot in the previous modules, but is because it has everything. It is a complete platform that also uses AI to create lesson plans. In the end, whatever tool you choose, use it with wisdom; don’t let the AI do all the work, check the information that it provides, and change the things you know are wrong.
This module was great; I learned a lot, and I put into practice all the knowledge I got about AI. The main activity from this module was to create a 60-hour lesson plan using AI; it was my first time creating lesson plans for modules using AI, and I can say that it was an amazing experience. With the teacher’s guide, my team got a great result; we got a complete 60-hour lesson plan divided into modules, and full of creative activities and assessments, all of them using technology. We did a good job and of course, I will use AI for improving my lesson planning.
Finally, in my opinion, the use of AI can be for saving time, for having options of activities in your class, for facilitating your assessments, and for improving your classes by making them more interactive and enjoyable. Lesson planning can be difficult, but if you use AI, and you use it in the right form, you can get a complete lesson plan in a matter of minutes. Using it correctly means checking the information it provides, getting different ideas from different AI, creating your lesson plan with the suggestions of the AI, or using it as a base. Remember that you are the expert, and we have to be aware that the responsible for our students’ learning is us.

Hello, Miguel. You're right, all teachers in the world have to know how to create lesson plans with AI because it will simplify their life. They key for creating lesson plan easy and fast is to know about prompt design. With this, you can develop all your work in a few minutes. I think we had learned a lot about how to create the lesson plans and different AI we can use in the process to make our classes more entretaining and dynamic.
ResponderEliminarHello Miguel! I really like all the content you created with artificial intelligence, your lesson plan looks very creative and detailed, and your blog is a clear example of everything you learned, I really like your blog.

ResponderEliminarSummary: The growth of AI that changes the rules in English Language Teaching. Here, then, is a perfect illustration of how valuable tools like ChatGPT and Notta. Furthermore, there are also AI-driven platforms like the ones built by whiteboard.ai that can streamline and enhance lesson planning in teaching using concepts of ai. Your thoughts about how to apply these concepts are also or real application like that of producing authentic materials and implementing interactive lesson plans. The notes of caution about the limits of AI and setting up prompts are good reminders. Having some of your won AI-generated resources, bots & songs etc in the mix show an example by a model made with these tools That AI is likely to make a massive contribution in this regard both terms above mentionedefficiency andcreativity ofteaching. Excited to see the ways these technologies shape your teaching process even more!
