Reflection on key concepts

 During module one I have learned lots of concepts related to AI, I consider all these concepts as a necessary part to introduce ourselves in the AI world. For that reason, I consider that all the concepts that I learned in module one are important. But I will make a list of the most important concepts I learned in this module, also I will add my reflection about each.

1-   The AI concept: I think that this is the principal concept that we have to learn as the complete course is about it, and it covers all the study subjects that we will learn about. I understand AI as the capability of AI systems to explain their reasoning and decision-making process in a way that humans can understand. Examples of this can be certain healthcare applications and autonomous vehicles. AI is a wide topic to explore and is the most extensive concept that encompasses all the others. 

2-   Generative AI: it refers to a class of AI that generates new content such as images, text, audio, or entire pieces of media. I really liked to study this topic because I think it will be very useful in teaching as you can create the images you want for your students, and even you can create lesson plans to teach your classes in a more dynamic way. 

3-   Prompt engineering: This concept is very important as “prompt” refers to the instruction or order you give to the AI to achieve a desired task, and “prompt engineering” refers to improving or making better that prompt. It is the way to follow if you want to avoid hallucinations (when the AI gives non-real information). To make prompt engineering you have to apply the elements of control: context control, audience control, length control, tone control, style control, hallucination control, and chain of thought control. This will help us to obtain what exactly we want from AI. 

4-   Design thinking: it refers to a human-centered approach to innovation and problem-solving that follows a process step by step. A process of empathy, creativity, collaboration, and prototyping. This concept is very useful in the launch of a new product from an enterprise, but also, this concept is very flexible and can be adapted to English teaching.

These concepts were totally new to me and obviously challenged my previous understanding of English language teaching. Is there something wrong with the traditional way to teach English? Maybe not, but by implementing this new concept we can improve English teaching, we can fill the spaces that the traditional teaching can’t fill, we can complement each other, having the AI as a tool that helps us to improve every area in which we need assistance, but not just that; having the AI as a powerful tool in the classroom can help our students to have a better understanding of each topic that we teach. This concept guided me to a new understanding of how to teach, now I can do it in an innovative manner applying all the knowledge I have learned from this course. When we plan a class in the traditional way, we can have the limitation of not having enough content, or not knowing what games are the corrects to implement in class, with these new concepts I have learned that I can opt to use AI as my complement and use it to help me in the search of new content and new activities. AI can create complete lesson plans if you design a good prompt, in that way you save time and even money, with the AI you can make your classes more interactive because it gives a lot of ideas for activities that you can try with your students. I think that the traditional way of teaching doesn’t have something wrong, but I do think that it would be better if we apply AI to our English classes. 

Knowing about all these concepts, and having a better understanding of them, I can apply them in the future with my future students. I have a lot of ideas on how to implement them. First, I can use the prompting engineering to create great lesson plans, working with the AI I will create better classes; classes that will be more interactive, more dynamic, and easier for students to understand the topics. Also, I will use this prompt designing to create images or flashcards that I will use with my future students; in that way, I will create images that support my classes, and these images will be the way I want and will contain the correct message that I want to transmit. With the same tool, I will talk to my students a little bit about AI, and I will make games or activities using it, for example, I will make an activity about “adjectives” in which they will have to create images using AI by writing a prompt using adjectives. Besides, I will make use of all the apps that I have learned to use in module one of the course; I will make use of Gamma, or another app with AI, to create presentations, in that way, I will save time; presentations with this kind of apps will be very useful for me when I will be very busy and with no time to create a presentation right from the start. Besides, I will make use of the AI app “Nearpod”, which will help me to share my presentation with my students in a more interactive manner; in this app, I will implement interactive questions, quizzes, and games. Finally, I will apply design thinking to solve a problem in the class or when I want to try something new with my students.
